The Hair Foundation and the 7th Annual World Congress for Hair Research
This year, the seventh annual World Congress for Hair Research will be held at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre from May 4-May 6, 2013. The Congress is a joint meeting of hair research societies worldwide (European, North American, Japanese, Korean, Indian and Australasian Societies). It is considered a major event for hair professionals such as specialist physicians, dermatologists, surgeons and scientists from academia and the industry.
Some of the Hair Foundation’s doctors will be presenting at the event and this includes the following:
May 5: Dr. Vera Price – Psychology and Hair Disorders workshop (4 p.m.)
May 6: Dr. Russell Knudsen - The surgical Management of Cicatricial Alopecias (10:30 a.m.)
In addition, following the World Congress event, is the International Investigative Dermatology Conference. It will be held from May 8 – May 11, also in Edinburgh.
On the agenda for May 9 is Dr.Kurt Stenn of the Aderans Research Institute, Inc. He will participate in a discussion on the full-thickness skin with mature and cycling hair follicles using tissue culture expanded human cells.
The Hair Foundation’s Vice Chair, Dr. Ken Washenik, is the Chief Executive Officer of Aderans.

Join the Hair Foundation at the 71st Annual AAD Meeting March 1 – March 5
This year, members of the Hair Foundation’s officers, board of trustees and members of its Scientific Advisory Council will again attend the 71st annual American Academy of Dermatology meeting. It will be held in Miami from March 1- March 5, 2013.

Hair Foundation’s Ken Washenik,Other Members Give Presentations at Industry Event
At the recent 2012 Winter Clinical Dermatology Conference in Maui, the Hair Foundation’s Vice Chair, Dr. Ken Washenik, M.D, Ph.D., gave a presentation called, “Emerging Therapies for Hair Loss.” It focused on new and breakthrough treatments in hair loss, such as clinical treatments.
Another topic in Washenik’s discussion was the progress Aderans Research has made on the Ji Gami™ family of cell products. This is a key component in the company’s cell-based solutions to androgenetic alopecia (pattern hair loss), according to a press release.
Washenik serves as the company’s chief executive. Earlier this month, Aderans Research announced the expansion of its hair loss clinical trials to four new cities. With almost 350 subjects, this trial represents one of the largest for researching cell-based solutions for pattern hair loss.
Aderans Research has been a pioneer in the research and development of safe, effective cell engineered products for hair regeneration. The Atlanta-based company is a subsidiary of Aderans Co., Ltd, the world’s largest wig manufacturer, and an affiliate of Bosley, a global leader in surgical hair restoration.
In addition to his presentation on hair loss, Washenik was also a participant in an audience question and answer session comprised of practicing dermatologists.

19th Annual ISHRS Scientific Meeting Begins September 14, Hair Foundation Presentations
Beginning on Wednesday, September 14 through September 18, the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS) will hold its 19th Annual Meeting in Anchorage, Alaska. This year’s theme is New Vistas & Trusted Techniques in Hair Transplantation.
New and established hair restoration surgeons, surgical assistants and hair restoration surgery office personnel will be attending.
During the busy four days, there will be a number of different presentations as well as video surgeries in HD, panel discussions, debates, workshops, lunch symposiums, scientific poster presentations, live patient view and lots more!
This year, two of the Hair Foundation’s Scientific Advisory Council Members are sitting on the 2011 Annual Scientific Meeting Committee: David Perez-Meza, MD, Basic Course Chair and Nina Otberg, MD, Live Patient Viewing Co-Chair.
The Hair Foundation’s Board of Trustees and members of its Scientific Advisory Council Members will be in attendance and involved through the conference presentations.
